Pricing settings: multiplier and hedging
Model a buyer’s offer with the price multiplier, discount uncertain hallmarks with purity hedging, see where each shows up, and what the two display toggles do.
Updated
By the end of this page your workspace prices the way you buy: every item, the total and the report show what you would offer, not full melt value. Both settings are part of WITVT Pro.
Opening the settings
Press Settings in the workspace toolbar. The page has two sections, Hedging and Price multiplier, a Save settings button, and a Saved settings summary at the bottom showing what is in force. Leaving with unsaved changes asks you to confirm.
The price multiplier
The price multiplier scales every calculated value. It must be above zero; 1 means full melt value. Set 0.7 and every item, coin, total and report shows 70% of melt, which is a typical buy price for clean, marked gold. Set 0.5 for a cautious offer on mixed scrap, or 1.1 to add a 10% margin when you are the one selling.
Enter the multiplier
Type the factor into Price multiplier: 0.7, not 70. Four decimals are kept.
Choose where it is mentioned
Show the multiplier in the workspace adds “× 70.0% multiplier applied” under the totals and a Price multiplier row to every breakdown. Show the multiplier in reports adds a Price Multiplier line to the report and to the shared summary. Turn the second one off to hand a customer a report that simply states your offer.
Save
Press Save settings. The workspace repriced itself on the way back, with Live on, or asks for a recalculation.
Worked example, with a 5 g 14K ring at a gold price of $2,400 per troy ounce: full melt value is $224.93; with a 0.7 multiplier the card shows $157.45. The multiplier applies to the metal and the stones together, and to both values of a coin.
Purity hedging
Hallmarks are claims, and some pieces test under them. Purity hedging trims the metal price per gram by a fixed percentage to cover that risk, which is how many professional buyers price marked gold. Turn on Enable hedging and enter the Purity hedging value as a fraction between 0 and 1: 0.05 is a 5% discount. The discount is applied to every priced metal in a piece of jewelry, before the multiplier. Coins are never hedged, because their composition is a catalog fact rather than a stamp.
Worked example, same ring: 5% hedging lowers the price per gram from $44.99 to $42.74 and the metal value to $213.68. With both settings on, 5% hedging and a 0.7 multiplier, the ring shows $149.58.
Where the settings show up
- Item breakdown. A Purity hedging row (“−5.0% (included above)”, meaning the price per gram already contains it) and a Price multiplier row (“×0.7”) when the display toggle is on.
- Totals. “× 70.0% multiplier applied” under the total in the panel head and in the bar under the list, when the workspace toggle is on.
- Report and sharing. A Price Multiplier line in the summary and in the emailed or messaged text, when the report toggle is on. Hedging is not mentioned on the report; it is part of the price per gram shown for each item.
Without Pro
The settings page opens with a Pro chip in its head, the teaser “Hedging and the price multiplier are part of WITVT Pro” with the current Pro price and a Sign in or Upgrade to Pro button, and the form below it greyed out. The Settings button in the toolbar carries the same chip.
If you set a multiplier or hedging while they were free, the values are still saved in this browser. The page says “Your saved values (×0.70 multiplier, 5% purity hedging) are kept and apply again when you upgrade” with a Reset to defaults button, and the workspace shows a one-time notice explaining that totals now show full melt value. Upgrade, and the saved values apply again on the next calculation.
Melt value versus an offer explains why buyers price below melt in the first place.
